Allies ?

If Iran and the US are both fighting al Qaeda, does that make them allies ?

Things are not going well with the "War". So how do you defend against people who's main tactic is suicide ? What kind of madness is this ? What would happen if we just left ? Yet, one has to wonder what good it is to stay.
It is said that Iran is keeping things stirred up. Probably. They seem to have everything to gain by the unrest.
Has the US overstepped itself here ? We seem to have come a long way since 1776.
