We watched Food, Inc. the other night. It was a bit of a bummer. The Fuzz wasn't really surprised by the meat industry, having seen this stuff before. We have raised goats, geese and chickens ourselves, and know it's not necessary to treat them this bad.
What got The Fuzz the most, was how the corporations were hounding and suing the little people to get a monopoly. That, and the apparent collusion by the government in all this.

It seems that part of our Heath Care Reform involves sending you Fatness Quotient to the government.

We quote,

"[T]he Obama administration sets its sights on overweight Americans, demanding obesity ratings for all citizens by 2014..."

And,

"... under the stimulus law, health care providers must establish "meaningful use" of electronic health records to qualify for federal subsidies or risk seeing their Medicare and Medicaid payments slashed. The electronic health records must include Americans' body mass index, or BMI, height and weight."

And lastly,

"... a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that $147 billion is spent annually on obesity-related costs, or 10 percent of medical costs."

It's all about money.

At Least They Will Be Covered

Ah, "Health" Insurance. There was a meeting about insurance changes today. When it was over, The Fuzz crunched the numbers a bit.
If he were to have this insurance stuff on his family, it would take at least 1 week's pay per month.
The deductible would exceed another 2 month's pay.
1 out of 4 weeks pay would work out to about 3 months pay per year.
Add on the other months for deductibles.
We are looking at over 5 month's pay per year here.
And congress has decided to force him to pay this.
But on the bright side, at least they will be covered.

Well, they claim they've given us Health Care. But all I see is they're taking our money and giving it to the insurance companies. But it is good for business, as we can see.

The Fuzz was listening to the radio the other day. Someone was explaining the financial world system. The best he could make out was it works like this.

1) A borrows 10 bucks from B.
2) A gives B IOU.
3) B sells IOU to C at a profit*.
4) D borrows 10 bucks from E.
5) D gives E IOU.
6) E sells IOU to C at a profit*.
7) C staples the IOUs together and sells them to F at a profit*.
8) F sells the lot to G at a profit*.
9) G sells to H at a profit*.
10) A&D skip town.
11) H sells to I at a profit*.
12) I can't find A or D to collect on IOUs.
13) Congressman J borrows 25 bucks from China to give to I.
14) I gives congressman J 5 buck campaign contribution.
15) Taxpayer U owes China 30 bucks.

At least that's the best he could make of it. But we have to remember that The Fuzz is just a dumb-ass garbage man so we shouldn't expect him to understand these things.

*Just where this profit comes from is one of the things The Fuzz doesn't quite get.

Well, it's beginning to look like we may get "Health Care" after all. What I don't understand is what's the difference between this thing and socialized medicine? I mean, if we are going to have mandatory participation, why are we sending this money to private, for profit, insurance companies? If we are going to force people to buy this medical coverage they don't want, why half-ass it? Why not just go to a government health system and be done with it? Why pretend it's something else?

Who is this "reform" supposed to benefit? The way things seem to be shaping up the only "benefit" is going to be forcing everyone into the Medical Industrial Complex (MIC). This would be good business for the insurance companies, for sure. The Fuzz finds this a bit distasteful. What is happening to our freedom here? But most people are so scared of not having insurance that they'll put up with anything. Here's a news flash- the mortality rate is still 100%.
The Fuzz is not really into socialism, but, if we are going to be forced into this, why should all this borrowed money be given to increase the profits of this MIC? If the government is "mandating" universal participation, they may as well just run the whole thing anyway. But I guess that would hurt a lot of big corporations and their lobbyists.

Congress is working on "Healthcare Reform". Is the problem the "care" or the lack of money?
One of the major "reforms" seems to be compelling everyone to carry health insurance. I suppose there might be a justification for making all drivers carry insurance, if you consider driving to be a privilege rather than a "right". But is simply being alive a "privilege"? What about those (yes there are some) who simply don't want to participate in this medical system?
Is all this business just a way of forcing everyone into this Medical Industrial Complex?

What is this "reclaiming positions" thing? Apparently, in this case, it means that teachers will be losing their jobs. "Reclaiming positions" is the local school board's terminology for lay-offs. And The Fuzz wonders why he gets confused about these things. Even the local reporter was thrown off the track by this. The Fuzz suspects that "They" do this sort of thing on purpose, but he does tend to be a bit paranoid at times. Anyway, we thought we'd mention this so if any of our loyal readers runs into this terminology, they won't be as confused as we were around here. So beware if you boss mentions "reclaiming your position".

I don't think there were any big surprises here. The Republicans have screwed up so much lately it was only a question of how badly they would lose.

I'm not real happy with much of the Democrat's agenda, but Obama doesn't seem too crooked.

I am glad that we were able to elect a Non- Wasp. I think this makes a statement to a lot of our detractors around the world.

When I asked The Fuzz what he thought, all he would say was "At least I still have my guns and Bible".

Communisn as Christian Heresy

In commenting on another Blog, I made mention of Communism as a "Christian Heresy". So for the one who asks-

"Fuzz - Christian Heresy? How so? I would actually love to see a post explaining that one."

I first ran into this idea in reading some of Francis Schaeffer's stuff, but I don't remember exactly where. But it makes sense to me.

There is a tradition of "Christian socialism". I suppose a lot of this thought goes back to the book of Acts in the New Testament, specifically Acts 2

"42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and in fellowship [...] 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need."

It should be pointed out that Schaeffer specifically said "Idealistic" Communism, which I guess explains why it has never worked out in practice.

C.S. Lewis, in his Screwtape Letters, speaks of "Christianity and...." as a situation where the "and" ends up taking precedence over the "Christianity". So in the case of Christianity and Socialism, we keep the Socialism and lose the Christianity (which is about Him), resulting in heresy.

There is, of course, a place for social and economic justice in Christianity, but it can only come as a result of the change of heart resulting from the indwelling of the Spirit of God. And at least in this age, it will inevitably fall short due to the presence of sin in ourselves.

Anyhow, I hope this doesn't confuse folks too much.

Stupid Economics

I'm obviously no Economist, nor is The Fuzz. It seems we always end up buying high and selling low. But I do know that there are people I won't "loan" money to. I might give it to them, but I've got better sense than to call it a "loan". It seems that the "experts" do things differently.
I saw a while back where one of those big banks hired a new guy and gave him $4,000,000 just to sign on. This was in addition to $1,000,000 of stock and I would assume his regular pay, what ever that is. Some of us would have to literally work for centuries to get that.
What The Fuzz wants to know is, if these guys are so smart, and worth so much to the bank, why am I and other taxpayers having to help them out? What do we want with a bunch of worthless loans? If they are no good to them, they're no good to us.
And now I hear that we are even going to buy bad debt from stupid foreign bankers. And all of this will be done with money that we don't have.
There seems to be a serious lack of reality to all this.

The End Justifies The Means?

I can't help but wonder what some of these people think. Why was this war (Iraq) pushed? With Afghanistan, we knew the Taliban were in sympathy with and protecting our enemies.
But regardless of all that, the deceit involved is what bothers me. When the Politicians think they have to lie to the people it is a bummer. Do they think they're so much smarter than the rest of us? But we need to remember that this is not confined to one party. Johnson did the same thing with Vietnam in that Gulf of Tomkin thing.
But one thing leads to another and we see this same attitude in those "Enhanced Interrogation" techniques.
And The Fuzz believes that this attitude of "The End Justifies the Means" is what will bring America down. We can already see it happening.

McClellan's Book

Mr McClellan's book about the Bush administration is, unfortunately, no surprise. That they used "propaganda" is nothing unique. "Spin" seems to be all we get anymore from politicians anyway.
But one has to wonder about the motivation behind all this. I can't believe it was a personal grudge. I suppose it's the "O" word, oil. If so, there seems to have been a major miscalculation.
I was a bit uneasy about it from the beginning, myself. But then, it should be remembered that even if there were no nuclear WMDs, Iraq had possessed, and used Poison Gas in the past.
I suppose, this administration thought that "The end justifies the means" applied here. But nothing good ever comes from this way of thinking.
But all this is already done and now we are stuck with it.

Thoughts on Gay Marriage

The California Supreme Court made their ruling on Gay Marriage the other day and Pissed a lot of people off. They also made some happy. The "Christian Right" of course didn't like this. And The Fuzz wasn't too happy with this business either.
The time is long passed when this was a "Christian Country" if it ever was in reality such a thing. And it is, I suppose, only fair that "Gay" couples should have the "Rights" to insurance benefits and other things enjoyed by heterosexual couples.
If that were all that was involved, it would be OK I suppose, and this could be provided by these "Civil Unions". But what is actually happening here, is a Redefinition of Marriage itself. Marriage is more complex than simply two (or more) buddies living together. There is a joining of opposites, that compliment each other, and form something more than the sum of the parts. And to call these relationships a Marriage cheapens the real thing.

All three of these candidates are pandering to their "constituencies" and all become sound bites. Any time someone accidentally mentions an uncomfortable truth, they immediately start backpedaling.

One should vote for Clinton because she is a woman, and will "Make History" If you "don't like her policies", that's just a cover up of your fear and hatred of women.

Lebanese political and security sources told CNN that three Lebanese internal security policemen in a clearly marked vehicle were on a routine patrol in a southern suburb of Beirut when they were intercepted and encircled by gunmen from Hezbollah.

It was kinda foolish to think that America could dominate the world for long. It is only natural that someone would put together some sort of coalition, no matter how weird, to counter the US. I see where the terrorists in Iraq are using poison gas now. Crude, but effective. Regardless of the way things are now, isn't poison gas a type of WMD ? I can not "prove" this of course, but neither can it be "proved" that I'm wrong. I do believe history is moving toward a culmination, and it involves the Middle East. Do I believe the world will end in 7 years from today ? I have no idea. That's not really my business is it. But it is interesting to see the possibilities here. It makes sense that Iran would want to make trouble for us in Iraq. We're already in pretty deep. I can't help but wonder where all this talk about Iran is leading.

It's kinda interesting to watch how they do politics in the middle east. Assassinations, carbombs, kidnappings, torture, and gunfights, etc. I suppose this is all our fault somehow. But then, it's hard to feel sympathetic for someone who's big ambition in life is to drink my blood. It would probably make them sick anyway.

Doesn't it seem a little premature to be starting the next presidential election already ? I guess I wanted a bit of a break after the mid-terms. Oh well, If you don't have a life, it gives you something to do. It is a bit entertaining to watch all these people trying to say something without saying the wrong thing. If you say the "wrong" thing all the others jump on you like flies on a turd. Shoot, I put the foot in my mouth all the time. I'm just glad I have a real job and I'm not in politcs.

They always say not to talk about religion or politics around people you don't want to offend. But screw all that. This will be a place to spout all those half baked harebrained ideas that wander though my mind from time to time. To rant and rave and see if I make any sense to myself even.
